HSBC has been a partner since 2003, as our work aligns closely with their global commitment to education and financial capability. In the charity's early days, HSBC provided generous sponsorship, which supported the development of Student Survivor and other online tools. These student finance tools have received over one million visits over the last two years alone. They form the basis of our teaching resources which were rolled out across the UK and received a number of awards:
Throughout the partnership, we have worked together in a number of ways;
In 2009, HSBC in the Community donated money and staff time to Brightside in order to develop a new ementoring programme called Talking Uni. This project saw HSBC staff from across the business, mentoring 16 to 18 year olds to help them think about university and career options and to help prepare them for university life and the financial challenges they will face.
At HSBC we really want young people to feel more comfortable and confident in understanding money and finance issues. That's why we support a range of community support activities for young people from primary school age upwards. We also are passionate about using the skills and enthusiasm of our own people in helping us to deliver this support. Finding time to contribute to these activities can be difficult so I am very pleased to now be able to offer my colleagues an opportunity to get involved from their offices or homes as an ementor. In this way we hope that HSBC can help more young people develop a firm foundation in how to manage their money.
